Becoming a mother is one of the biggest joys of womanhood and the thought of having that ‘little bundle of joy’ might make you forget all the pains of pregnancy. Most females are not sure how to check if they are pregnant and do not want to approach the physician without basic validation. For some females, the earliest sign and pregnancy symptoms start in the first few weeks after conception.
Here are some facts which will help you to evaluate, if the symptoms are pointing you towards motherhood:
A Missed Period is a fundamental Sign
If you have regular periods and if it is delayed this month by over 10 days, there are possibilities that you might be pregnant. This could indicate the starting symptoms of pregnancy. However, delay in periods also indicates other reasons such as anorexia, PCOD, thyroid problem, contraceptive medication etc. If you notice a missed period, take up a home pregnancy test or consult your nearest doctor.
Notice the Body Changes
Apart from the missing period, you might also experience the following signs and symptoms of pregnancy:
Nausea, vomiting, bloating of the body, soreness of the nipples, back pain, anxiety, severe mood swings, pulsating headache, craving for food etc. These are the pregnancy manifestations suggestive of starting pregnancy symptoms. These above-mentioned body changes are the pregnancy symptoms that take place in the first trimester. So if you are facing these problems along with a missed period then this could be the time to book a physician’s appointment.
Polyuria (frequent urination)
This is a positive sign of pregnancy thereby indicative of starting pregnancy symptoms. As the hormone levels elevate, the blood flow rushes to the kidney, causing the urinary bladder to become full. This results in repeated urination in pregnant women; if you rush to the washroom every 20-30 minutes, then it could be good news.
Methods of confirming pregnancy:
Pregnancy Test (in-home)
If you have missed your menses then the home pregnancy test is the easiest and simplest option to get confirmation of signs of pregnancy. This simple and convenient test works on a urine sample and gives a correct result within a few minutes. This in-home pregnancy test can easily detect the starting symptoms of pregnancy. If the home pregnancy kit gives a positive result, visit your physician to get a confirmation. It is always better to have a medical verification about pregnancy than simply relying on the home pregnancy test result.
The physician will order for a blood test to investigate the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone to verify pregnancy. It is the most effective method to detect and confirm the starting pregnancy symptoms. Usually, this test gives an authentic result (about early signs of pregnancy), even in the early stages so it can be carried out after you have missed your period.
Physical Examination (internal)
Only after 2 weeks of your missed period (the most common sign of pregnancy), the physician can perform an internal examination. It is also considered to be a useful method to detect the symptoms that are seen in the early pregnancy. The doctors will assess the changes in the uterus and cervix to verify your pregnancy.
